Background
Dr. Benefield's educational background is diverse, as
well as grounded in traditional liberal arts. Her degrees include
a B.A. in English Literature, with a minor in Political Science; an
M.Ed. in Counseling; and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in
Interdisciplinary Education, with course emphasis in sociology,
psychology, and adult education. With an interest in teaching at
the college level, Dr. Benefield focused her research on retention of
"non-traditional" students in the two-year college setting.
In her "prior life"...that is, before completion of
her doctorate, Dr. Benefield was a professional counselor in the state
of Washington for a number of years. Although no longer in
clinical practice, she greatly enjoys training the next generation of
human service workers. |
