Statement of Purpose |
|

|
The purpose of the Human Services Program is to prepare qualified
individuals for entry-level positions in a wide variety of social
service settings by providing opportunities for personal and
professional growth through knowledge-based learning, experiential
processes, community involvement, and practical experience under
direct supervision of professionals in local agencies.

Learning Outcomes |
|
|
|
Upon successful completion of the Human Services Program, the
students will be able to: |

|
|
1. |
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the role of the human
services worker in a variety of social service settings. |
|
2. |
Examine current social issues and their impact on society, including
substance abuse & dependence. |
|
3. |
Compare & contrast current counseling theories used in the field of
human services. |
|
4. |
Demonstrate facilitative skills in group settings that apply family
and group dynamics theories. |
|
5. |
Apply appropriate interpersonal skills in helping relationships,
including crisis intervention. |
|
6. |
Assess a client's needs holistically and develop individual plans
for personal growth and change as appropriate. |
|
7. |
Employ sensitivity & awareness when working with persons from
diverse populations. |
|
8. |
Apply case management skills, including documentation and
record-keeping skills, and the ability to make appropriate
referrals. |
|
9. |
Demonstrate professional and ethical standards of confidentiality
and integrity. |
