Statement of Purpose |

|
The purpose of the Accounting Technology
program is to prepare qualified, competent accountants
for entry-level positions to help fulfill the
community's needs for accountants in a wide variety of
business and not-for-profit organizational settings.

Learning Outcomes |
|
|
|
At the completion of the Accounting
Technology plan of study the student will be able to: |
|
|
|
1. |
Determine the appropriate calculations
for solving diverse accounting problems and perform the
computations necessary for their solution. |
|
2. |
Analyze accounting problems and
communicate solutions both orally and in writing. |
|
3. |
Perform all steps in the accounting cycle
for service, merchandising, and manufacturing operations
for sole proprietorships and corporations. |
|
4. |
Analyze financial statements from a
management viewpoint and critique financial statements
from an outsider’s point of view. |
|
5. |
Record cost accounting transactions and
prepare appropriate production reports and financial
statements. |
|
6. |
Communicate with clients in order to
assemble tax information and then prepare federal,
state, and local income returns for individuals. |
|
7. |
Process a payroll by maintaining payroll
records, preparing payroll journal entries and
completing various quarterly and annual tax forms. |
|
8. |
Set up and employ appropriate
computerized accounting and financial software to solve
accounting problems. |
|
9. |
Describe the underlying concepts of the
financial statement auditing process and apply those
concepts to an auditing engagement. |
|
10. |
Analyze and record state and local
governmental transactions. Prepare and evaluate state
and local governmental financial statements. |
|
11. |
Research accounting, tax, auditing and
business issues. |
|
